Double End Chamfering Machine for Versatility & Efficiency
Keystone’s JF Berns automatic double end chamfering machine turns chamfers of varying angles, depth, and diameter. The Berns machine was custom designed and built to process high-volume loads of up to 20” steel rod bundles from 8’ to 25’ in length, with .5 to 3.5” diameter and a weight capacity of 10,000 lbs. Its servo driven chamfer feed improves efficiency and precision.
Chamfering Ensures Quality
Chamfering steel rod is an important part of the thread rolling process because it extends tool life for precise threading and ensures threads are completely formed. This is the first step we take in the process to manufacture quality threaded rod while also maintaining our tooling dies to ensure our products exceed our customers’ expectations.
How the JF Berns Auto Chamfering Machine Works
From the bundle loading area, the bar feeder system moves bars into the staging area where they are positioned to enter the automatic chamfer process. One by one, bars are precisely positioned at the programmed stop and chamfered to specification. They may also be dot peened for identification before continuing along the feeder system to complete the same chamfering process on the opposite end. The processed bar is then released and collected in the cradle. Once all chamfered bars have been collected, they are bundled together with banding straps for transportation.
A combination of fast cycle times and changeovers with the JF Berns machine improves efficiency and supports our lean manufacturing efforts.
